Nate's Neighborhood Notes
April 2021
Waiting for the New SI Statutory Instrument-14 came on March 4, 2021 and runs for 30 days. There has not been any announcement, as of yet of when the new SI is going to come out. Most people knew that the government did not want to make any changes until after Easter or even Spring Break, in order to avoid any outbreaks of covid cases during one of the busiest tourist times of the year.
The good news is that the daily positivity rate has been under 5 (the target number that the Ministry of Health has been looking to be under). The latest positivity rate was .73 on March 31, 2021 and has been consistently under 1 for weeks. As of March 31, 2021, there were 22,067 people in the country that have received at least one vaccination.
There is a rumor that on April 15, 2021 there will be a further relaxing of the curfew and restrictions, if not complete removal of the current restrictions. Once, again, THIS IS JUST RUMOR.
Currently, there are only 40 positive cases of Covid-19 in the ENTIRE country of Belize.
Spilt Screen Bike Ride to San Pedro now on New YouTube Channel I have been working on some videos that might give you an idea of how much development has been happening in San Pedro is the pst 5 years. The videos are at least 5 years apart and run from the area just north of Las Terrazas down to what is suppose to be The Marriott Residences (still not under construction). I tried to notate where some of the real estate developments are along the way. I have loaded the videos on my YouTube channel, "Nate in Belize". Take a look and let me know what you think. I have put direct links to the videos below.
Please take look at the channel and "SUBSCRIBE" if you want to be able to get notices for new videos and information that I will have in the future. If you have any ideas of videos you would like to see in the future, shoot me an email and I will see what I can do.
Wayos Re-Opens in Boca Del Rio A sure sign of things getting back to normal (or the new normal) is the return of beloved establishments that were forced to close, for one reason or another, during the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those establishments was Wayos ("Wayo from Cayo"). Newly built and on a new pier, Wayos had its soft opening on April 1, 2021. Though not greatly advertised, many ex-pats and locals showed up to show their support and to wish Wayo and Dee (his wife) well on their continuing venture. The restaurant and bar is located just north of the previous location. The new property has improvements on space and layout and has been designed for expansion, if desired in the future.
Returning behind the bar are many of those that were at the last establishment. It is sure to be a welcomed addition back on the beach.

Secret Beach Water Park Opens! I have been keeping my eye on this new venture that has actually been in the works for some time now. FINALLY, the approvals are all in and the water park has been put together. This is an inflatable water park, which is the project and dream of Tammy and James Knight.
While construction still continues on the Bar and Grill, a new water activity can be enjoyed by all. As of now, the sessions last for an hour. This might change as they make adjustments to the operation and work out the kinks of the new venture. The palapa sits at the end of a new pier that was constructed and there will be a 2-story Bar & Grill area on the lot in front of the pier. You can see more on their Facebook page Secret Beach Water Park.
