LobsterFest Rings in a Busy "Slow Season"
Slow Season on Ambergris Caye typically begins at the end of April/beginning of May. The snowbirds have packed up and moved north and tourist visits drop. While the end of May and beginning of June seemed to show those signs, the end of June and beginning of July (opening of lobster season), seems to show signs of a resurgence in tourism. Maybe these are just pockets of people, but in San Pedro, things seemed pretty busy even passed mid July. Once the festival ended (July 16), I surely thought the numbers would drop off, but the following week, I saw a number of tourist, including large groups, in town. I have a condo listing that showed 24 rental dates for the month of June. Those are great numbers for any part of the year. This could be due to the brand and its marketing, but for investors it is a welcome sign that San Pedro may (post Covid) start bringing in more tourist during what is typically our "slow season".
As far as LobsterFest 2023, the amount of days increased as well as the number of events, but from what I saw, they all seemed to be pretty well attended. I ended up not traveling to Caye Caulker for their LobsterFest, so I don't have any comparisons. I did make a few videos and I will past them at the end of this article.
If you are thinking about traveling to the island in July next year, you might want to book earlier to get a better selection on accommodations and possibly better rates.

Westjet Increases Nonstop Flights From Canada
Strengthening its connection with Belize, WestJet Airlines is set to increase the frequency of nonstop flights from two major Canadian cities – Toronto and Calgary, to Belize City. This new development, scheduled to commence in the upcoming winter season, places WestJet at the forefront of enhancing air travel between the two countries.
Starting in November, travel enthusiasts from Toronto can indulge in the Belizean allure three times a week, with nonstop flights scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The Toronto-Belize City flight is perfectly timed, departing Toronto (YYZ) at 10:15 and landing in the captivating Belize City (BZE) at 13:54. The return flight from Belize City is scheduled for 16:15, bringing you back to Toronto by 21:37. This enhanced frequency of flights brings a breath of fresh air for Canadian globetrotters looking to bask under the Belizean sun.
For travelers from Calgary, WestJet has doubled its service to Belize City. Flights are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays, taking off from Calgary (YYC) at 08:35 and reaching Belize City at 15:23. The return flight will embark from Belize City at 16:25 and land back in Calgary by 21:50. This increase in service is expected to bolster both tourism and business ties between Western Canada and Belize.

SWA Announces New Nonstop From Baltimore/Washington (BWI) to Belize
On August 3, 2023, Southwest Airlines (SWA) announced that it would start a nonstop flight from Baltimore/Washington DC (BWI) to Belize City (BZE) starting March 9, 2024. This service is part of their spring break travel package, with will include additional flights to other Caribbean destinations as well as Mexico. The flights will be on Saturdays only. The flight will leave BWI at 8:30am and arrive at BZE at 11am. The returning flight will leave at 12pm and arrive at 5:50pm.
In addition, existing routes (Houston and Denver) will have increased flights on the weekends. I believe that some of these flights were planned, but delayed, due to the global decrease in flying during the COVID- 19 pandemic.
Hopefully, the increased number of flight are a sign of the estimated increase in travelers and will help lower the overall price of flights for our destination.
