Salsa in San Pedro? I have often wondered why there was not much salsa music being played on the island of Ambergris Caye. With the close proximity to Cancun as well as Cuba, one would think there would be more of this music being played on the island and in the country. I know that there have been lessons taught before, but it is always tougher to get men to humble themselves enough to take the time and learn new dance moves. This is not just in Belize, but most of the U.S. As well. Fortunately, on December 4th, Tuki Tuki is bringing salsa lessons back to San Pedro. I don't know how long it will last, but I will definitely participate as much as possible to support and maybe increase the amount of salsa music that is played here. The last salsa club that I have been to in the closest region would be Azucar in Cancun. This was many years ago, but a wonderful experience. There were not many tourists there, at the time and we were able to immerse ourselves in the music and vibe of the club. I think that a venue that supports this type of music and dancing would be a welcomed addition to all of the country and western music that is played here. I don't know how long these lessons will last, but I am going to take the lessons, while they are available.
The lessons are scheduled from 6:30pm to 8:30pm every Wednesday. Tuki Tuki Restaurant and Bar is at the Royal Caribbean Resort about 2 miles south of town, on the reef side. They are just north of Victoria House.
