Nate's Neighborhood Notes
February 2021

Curfew Changed Back to Original Time
Back in December of 2020 and before Christmas, the country of Belize have over 3,000 positive cases of the coronavirus. After a steady decline of those positive cases, it was announced on January 29, 2021, that the curfew would be raised to 10pm (ending at 5am) as it was originally. This difference is that the curfew for children is still at 6pm. Churches and gyms are also now able to be open up to 50% of capacity. Vendors may also sell on public property, provided they implement social distancing guidelines.
As of February 12, 2021, there are only 198 positive cases of Covid-19 in the entire country, according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness maps. On Tuesday, February 3, 2021, Dr. Canul said that there were only 5 positive cases in San Pedro.
The issuance of statutory instrument 9 (SI-9) is supposed to last for 30 days. Negative covid tests are now required to re-enter the United States, as of January 26, 2021, but a test site is available at the San Pedro airport at the old Maya terminal.

Alaia on Schedule For March Opening!
Many of you have already about the resort Alaia being built about 1.5 miles south of downtown. Chosen by leading hospitality brand Marriott to be an Autograph CollectionŽ hotel, Alaia is looking to bring in a new brand of business traveler and tourist to San Pedro. I was fortunate enough to be able to tour the property recently and was impressed with the progress that has been made AND the units and impressive views that they offer. The pool, which was recently filled for the first time, an its surrounding area will certainly be a feature of the resort, as well as its modified and groomed beach area. Multiple choices for dining and a wine bar this country has not seen all compliment the design and feel you get when you are on the property. As a reminder, this place is not even finished, but I am excited to see and experience the final outcome.
Alaia was originally due to open in late 2020, but with a global pandemic, which included a work stoppage, the opening was pushed back to March 2021.
There are still units for purchase in Alaia as well as their sister property Banyan Bay, but I am told that Alaia is already 70% SOLD OUT! For more information on availability, feel free to reach out on our CONTACT page or send an email.
