                                                LobsterFest 2021
After canceling the San Pedro Lobster Festival in 2020, the town council has scheduled the event to continue again this year.
The event will kickoff again this year by serving LionFish in different forms to open the festival. The Lobster Festival officially starts on July 1st along with lobster season.
On June 30th visit Estel's Dine By the Sea and The LionFish Lot Party @The Commons on Coconut Drive at the corner of the turnoff to the medical school and on the way to Pedros. There you can try tasty lionfish dishes. The Commons is where our local Keller Williams real estate office is and I hope to see you there.
Unlike previous years, there will not be a lobster festival block party in Central Park at the end, due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

For full details on the San Pedro Lobster Festival you can get more information on the Facebook page here.

                                      Hurricane Season Begins
June 1st marks the beginning of hurricane season for the Caribbean. Hurricane season runs through the end of November with the most historical activity for Belize being from late August to October, but a storm can occur even outside the normal "season".  My first trip to Belize was in August and my second in November of that same year.
National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) tracks storms in the region and is essential for getting information and staying prepared. You can follow them here.

You can read up on the history of hurricanes in or near Belize here.

                                             Pedro's Inn Has Fire
On May 30, 2021, a bit after sunrise a fire was reported at the famed Pedro's Inn Hotel and Hostel. After authorities were on the scene, it was found that it was actually the kitchen/bar/club that was on fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and save the other buildings, as well as neighboring buildings. I rode by a few hours later to see for myself and was glad to see the other buildings unharmed.
Pedro's bar had been shut down since the pandemic, but it was told that there had been people there until around 2am. early that morning. Pedro's nightlife had been known mostly for "Ladies Night" on Wednesdays in which mostly younger locals and adventurous tourists would gather for late night music and dancing. It is unknown when and if the bar/nightclub will be rebuilt.

                                      San Pedro Urgent Care Open!
Many already know that Belize Medical Association (BMA) was replaced by San Pedro Urgent Care on the Grand Caribe property, north of the bridge. Dr. Rene and nurse Cora were the guests on Reef tv and explained the services that were offered and answered questions from the online audience. This is a community based clinic in which you can see a general practitioner for $40 (specialist for $160Bz). You can also get digital X-rays here.

For more information you can go to the website here and to view the Reef tv episode click here.

Alaska Airlines Announces New Non-Stop Flights to Belize
Alaska Airlines has announced new non-stop service from Los Angeles and Seattle direct to the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) in Belize City starting in November of 2021. The addition of the new routes will hopeful make the prices more competetive during the upcoming high season. This will make it also easier for other locations like San Francisco and other major cities that can get to those hubs to take advantage of the flights. Taking a quick look, I see flights from LAX in late November under $500USD roundtrip.

There has still been no announcement as to when Southwest Airlines will resume flights to Belize.
