Nate's Neighborhood Notes
March 2021
10PM Curfew Extended for 30 More Days SI-14 is out and extends the 10pm curfew for 30 more days as of March 4, 2021. Churches and gyms are also still able to be open up to 50% of capacity. Vendors may also sell on public property, provided they implement social distancing guidelines.
As of March 3, 2021, there were only 117 positive cases of Covid-19 in the ENTIRE country of Belize, according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness maps. On Monday, March 1, 2021, Dr. Canul said that there were only 5 positive cases in San Pedro. None of those cases were reported to be nationals.
The issuance of statutory instrument 14 (SI-14) is supposed to last for 30 days. SI-14 has provisions to allow those entering the country that have had a 2nd vaccine dose to not have to provide a negative PCR test. This also extends the testing time for those entering with a PCR test to 96 hours from 72 hours. Negative covid tests are now required to re-enter the United States, as of January 26, 2021, but a test site is available at the San Pedro airport at the old Maya terminal. There are other sites on the island, but this one seems more convenient for most travellers.
Ride to Secret Beach now on New YouTube Channel In January, I filmed a bike ride to Secret Beach and have now loaded it on my YouTube channel, "Nate in Belize" . I know how hard it is to get a perspective of your surroundings when you only have a map to look at. I also wanted to show viewers a closer look at the famed development Grand Belizean Estates and the neighboring areas. Take a look and let me know what you think. I have put direct links to the videos below.
Please take look at the channel and "SUBSCRIBE" if you want to be able to get notices for new videos and information that I will have in the future. If you have any ideas of videos you would like to see in the future, shoot me an email and I will see what I can do.
Alaia Adjusts Opening Schedule! As we move into March, it has become clearer to what the timeline of Alaia's opening will be. I heard, less than a week ago, that a "soft" opening will occur at the end of the month of March (possibly first week of April) for owners and special guests. Marriott's reservation system will then allow bookings after May 6, 2021.
I recently toured the resort (Alaia and Banyan Bay Suites) with a client and the progress has been incredible, since January. Things are coming together and finishing touches are being put in to place. Many of the island residences are also looking forward to additional dining facilities as well as the original facilities that were being remodeled.
If Alaia is a bit out of your price range, might I suggest Banyan Bay Suites, which might be a better play as an investment as you get can still get a 2BR/2BA unit starting at $399,000. All of the units for sell by the developer have had extensive upgrades and will meet the demanding new Marriott standards. The pool area has also had upgrades, as well as the beach bar, and the beach restaurant.
There are still units for purchase in Alaia as well as their sister property Banyan Bay, but I have recently been told that Alaia is now 75% SOLD OUT! For more information on availability, feel free to reach out on our CONTACT page or send an email.
New Central Park Sign If you have been out of the country for the past year, you may not have seen the improvements that the town counsel has been making to Central Park. This includes fresh new paint to the benches and walls as well as the concrete animals in the park.
Most recently is the addition of a concrete "SAN PEDRO" sign, which is sure to be a draw for tourists and locals as a photo opportunity for their visit to this island. I must say it is a GREAT addition to the park for all to enjoy for many years. Here are a few pictures that I took as I passed by on several trips.
