San Pedro Dodges Rath of Hurricane Lisa, but not Belize City
On November 2, 2022, Hurricane Lisa made landfall about 5 miles south of Belize City. While it was unsure where exactly landfall would be, island residences prepared for the worst and some evacuated to the mainland.
Less than a week later, things are pretty much back to normal, here in San Pedro. Donations are still needed for the people on the mainland so if you have a mind to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. I posted some videos on my YouTube channel, if you want to get an idea of what it was like here, during and after the storm.

                                  2022 Readers' Choice Awards

Before the global pandemic, Belize's tourism was increasing and it often won travel awards for best countries to visit and other things that brought many of us here. It was good to here that once again, Belize is getting highly ranked on places that people might want to visit. In early October, Belize was ranked 8th in Conde Nast Traveller on a list of "the friendliest countries in the world". This is great news for our travel industry and the island. As we near high season, tourists are still looking for safe places to travel to. Based on what I have seen during "slow season", there could be a lot of new tourists discovering Belize for the first time as well as those that are looking to return to the small island that they recently fell in love with.

Courts Belize is Coming to San Pedro
If you haven't noticed already, some yellow and blue paint has been put on a familiar building south of town on Coconut Dr. Word has it that Courts Belize is coming to the old Mermaids grocery store location. The building has already been painted and like most businesses, they are probably planning on opening before the end of the year.
Boca Del Rio Beach Closure and Restoration Project
The high school area of Boca del Rio Beach is now closed for vehicle traffic until further notice. This is part of a new restoration project that is studying beach erosion and patterns of the sand during the event.. Currently, bikes and foot traffic are still allowed in that area. Barriers and signs have been placed in the affected areas.

High School Beach Wall Mural Extended
During COVID, a mural on the beach wall of the high school was created. I honestly don't know if it is a project from the town counsel or just volunteer work from local artists. Recently, the artwork has been extended with beautiful cultural pictures and colors that encompass life and history, here in Belize. I encourage you to walk by (this is the area of beach that is closed to vehicle traffic in Boca Del Rio) and take a look.
                                               Holidays are Coming!
The holiday season will soon be among us with events that we have not been able to celebrate in years. Notably, the San Pedro Christmas Parade is being held on the 18th of December. In addition, Sagebrush Church will have its Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on December 2nd. Of course, before any of that happens, we have Garifuna Settlement Day on November 19! Hope to see you around town.
