While I did not make it out to many of the festivities, during the month of September, I did watch the parade on Independence Day. The parade started further south on Seagrape Drive and started later than posted (which is par for the course, here in Belize). I had a nice viewing spot at Perla Escondida and watched the entirety pretty much there. That being mentioned, it seemed a little shorter this year than previous years and only took around 40 minutes to watch from start to finish. A shout out to all of the volunteers and participants to make this such a fun event every year!

I have gone through and did some updates on my video library. Many of you already know that I have a YouTube channel "Nate in Belize" where I post videos of the island regarding real estate and some community events. On occasion, I will post videos of my trips to the mainland.
There is a menu button on the left that will take you to that selection and that may be easier to navigate than YouTube. The selections are direct links to the YouTube videos. Although most of them are listed there, a few may be missing. Feel free to take a look as there may be some subject matter that you are interested in that I might have already covered in a previous video.

On June 28, 2024, it as announced by the Belize Tourism Board, that United Airlines would launch a new route starting on December 21, 2024, offering a direct flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Belize (BZE). I had some extensive travel getting ready to happen around that time and totally missed the news, until I recently came across it. I had been waiting for someone to announce a nonstop route from that area for some time, particularly since I am very familiar with the area.
From San Francisco, California (SFO), this will be United’s fifth hub with nonstop service to Belize. The airline also operates multiple daily flights from Houston (IAH) as well as seasonal flights from Newark (EWR), Denver (DEN), and Chicago (ORD). The flight time is 5 hours and 33 minutes. The distance is 2497 miles. That's the good news. The not so good news is that these flights are not cheap! The current roundtrip pricing is over $1,300. There are plenty of people in that area that have that kind of money and maybe that is why they are trying out that pricing initially. Having said that, there is a premium for flying nonstop and getting to your destination faster. I'm not sure how the late arrivals (after 7pm.) are going to work and still getting to San Pedro. Maybe Tropic and Maya are planning on running later flights in the summer.
These flights are seasonal and will operate once weekly on Saturdays from December 21, 2024, through January 6, 2025, and March 6, 2025, to March 30, 2025, with the following schedule:
Depart San Francisco (SFO) 12:30 a.m. — Arrive Belize (BZE) 7:54 a.m.
Depart Belize (BZE) 10:15 a.m. — Arrive San Francisco (SFO) 2:24 p.m.
Then, from March 31, 2025, to April 30, 2025, and May 22, 2025, to August 17, 2025, service will operate with the following schedule:
Depart San Francisco (SFO) 1:10 p.m. — Arrive Belize (BZE) 7:43 p.m. (Saturdays only)
Depart Belize (BZE) 9:30 a.m. — Arrive San Francisco (SFO) 2:24 p.m. (Sundays only)
United will deploy its fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on the route. The operating aircraft will feature 102 standard seats in Economy and 48 seats in the Economy Plus cabin in a 3-3 configuration. Up front in first class, you’ll find 16 seats in a 2-2 configuration.
The Maya train, which will run from the Yucatan and down through Quintana Roo, over to Campeche, down through Tabasco and to Pelenque in Chiapas, and back up to the Yucatan has been running since December of last year. What is exciting, for those of us in Belize is that we will soon have another transportation option up to Cancun (including the international airport) and Merida (a big medical hub). Although originally scheduled for completion in 2024, it is not expected to be fully completed and operational to Chetumal until February 2025.
There are different classes for your tickets, mainly Tourist and Premier!
I will admit trying to even simulate booking a trip is difficult with the websites (there seems to be more than one). Also, one of the sites shows more than the two classes. I will post an updated article again once we get into 2025 and closer to full operation.
