                                 International Airport Reopens
The  Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) officially opened on October 1, 2020. United and American were initially scheduled to have 5 flights a week and Delta is to start service on November 20, 2020. Southwest airlines had already announced that it did not plan to continue service until 2021. Tropic Airlines will have international flights from Cancun, Mexico starting Oct.12th. Also, Avianca will also start flying from select destinations. I have heard different reports on numbers entering on the first flight, but it seems to range from 72 to 80+ passengers.

Active Coronavirus Cases Rising in Certain Districts
The number of active corona virus cases in the country of Belize have begun to rise in certain districts in the country. Mainly Orange Walk, wish is at the western side of the country and borders Guatemala. Other districts have had small spikes during sampling, but the trend is not good news. San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, now has less than 65 active cases and that number is slowly dropping. It will be interesting to see what impact the airport opening will have as some people may try to get out and about without a proper quarantine period. The new quarantine period is now 10 days after arrival and I believe you are supposed to receive clearance from the health administration. Tourists are required to stay in the safe corridor zones using ONLY Gold Standard operators, taxis, and hotels. For more information on the coronavirus in Belize click here.

                          Guidelines for Visiting/Returning to Belize
On the eve of the opening of PGIA a website was released for applications for returning to the country of Belize. The link for the application process is here PRESCREEN NOTE: Many of the verification emails have arrived in the SPAM folder so double check if you do not receive the original email. You may have to use another email, if that doesn't work. For property owners or long term leaseholders, you will be required to upload supporting documents (passport, departure stamp, land certificate, purchase contract, lease agreement) in a .JPG FORMAT. You will receive an email confirming an approval for your application. You will still need to get a PCR test with 72 hours of arriving (not required, but it will expedite entry at the airport) and you need to download the Travel Health App, now available for iphones and Android users within 72 hours of arriving.
Requirements are constantly changing as Belizean citizens and permanent residents are no longer required to submit an application (see the press release below).

I have read that on the first day, it took about 2.5 hours to get through the check-in process.
The Travel Health app. needs to be loaded/reloaded within 72 hours of arrival. You will be given a code that is used at the airport upon arrival. For more information on the different travel classificaions, please see the chart below.
